AVA Galleri’s presentation at Menart 2025, “From the Bāgh to the Boulevard” traces a vital trajectory in the Iranian psyche. It is a journey from the enclosed, metaphysical space of the Bāgh—the Persian garden as a paradigm of paradise, order, and inner reflection—to the open, fluid, and often chaotic stage of the boulevard—the modern urban space of social exchange and collective memory.
This movement from a cultivated ideal to a lived reality captures the dynamic tensions of contemporary Iran. The five visionary artists in this presentation explore the echoes of Persian art that resonate at the heart of Paris.
Together, the artists we are presenting create a rich map of contemporary Iranian existence. “From the Bāgh to the Boulevard” is not about choosing one over the other but about a continuous and necessary negotiation. It’s an invitation to see how the longing for a structured paradise persists, even as it is tested, fragmented, and reimagined in the vibrant, unscripted city theater.
We are honored to showcase this chorus of distinct artistic voices from Tehran in Paris, a city whose historic gardens and grand boulevards echo this theme. This presentation acts as a bridge, built of art, connecting two rich cultures through shared reflection on the spaces—both inner and outer—that we inhabit.
